Hair Transplantation is the only permanent solution for hair loss. During hair transplant surgery, you are both the
donor and the recipient during the procedure with hair being removed from the donor zone in the back of your head
where your hair is genetically programmed to grow for life and being transplanted into the balding and thinning
areas of your scalp.
There is a step-by-step process for all procedures with the biggest difference being the choice of the donor hair
harvesting technique. At Enhance, we perform both FUT Strip Harvest and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Your Enhance surgeon will help you understand and select the type of procedure which is best for you.
Step One: Donor Area Prep and Donor Hair Removal
During hair transplant surgery, you are both the donor and
recipient during the procedure with hair being removed from the
donor zone in the back of your head where your hair is genetically
programmed to grow for life.
There are two methods of harvesting your donor hair:
Strip Harvesting in which a strip of tissue is removed and then the individual follicular units are dissected underneath a microscope.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) in which grafts are harvested individually.
During (FUE) Follicular Unit Extraction the follicular units are harvested from the donor area individually using the manual SAFE System or The ARTAS® System and do not need to be dissected under a microscope.
Step Two: Dissection of the Follicular Units
With FUT Strip Harvest procedures, the donor strip is placed under
the Enhance Scope which is designed specifically for hair restoration
surgery. Then the donor strip is dissected into individual follicular
units of one to four hairs.
Step Three: Creation of the Recipient Sites
Your hair transplant surgeon creates recipient sites in the proper
angle, direction and orientation according to the artistic hair
transplant plan he has designed specifically for you.
Step Four: Placement of the Hair Grafts
Finally, your hair grafts are transplanted into the balding and
thinning areas of your scalp by a surgery technician who places each
graft carefully and meticulously into those recipient sites.
Transplanted hair goes through the same resting and growing phases of your normal hair. The hairs of the
transplanted grafts will begin to grow at approximately 4 months after your procedure and will continue to grow
through months 10 – 12 post operatively.
With today’s technology, Hair Transplant Surgery results are perfectly natural and undetectable.
Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation (FUT)
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is performed using local
A thin strip of donor hair is harvested from the donor area which is the
region of hair on the back of the head. This hair is genetically
programmed not to fall out. These hairs are permanent.
The donor strip is then placed under the Enhance Scope which is a
microscope specifically designed for hair restoration surgery. The strip
is then dissected into microscopic grafts of individual follicular units,
of one to four hairs. This important step in hair restoration surgery
must be precise in order to gain the best yield from your donor area.
These precious grafts are placed in a cold, tissue storage and kept as
such until they are meticulously placed in the recipient sites created
by our hair surgeon.
Extreme attention is given to the exact angle and direction of each
tiny recipient site in order to maximize the redistribution of your
transplanted hair to achieve aesthetic and artistic density, meaning to
give the most natural looking result and the greatest allusion of
In most procedures, the 1- hair grafts are placed in the frontal hairline
and temporal peaks, the 2-hair grafts immediately behind the hairline
grafts and the 3 and 4 hair follicular units are placed through central
and forelock zones.
This may vary with Corrective Procedures where the repair of
“old plugs” requires more creative design to soften the “pluggy”
appearance of older surgical hair restoration techniques.
Surgical hair restoration patients are provided with a specific
post-operative routine to follow for the first 10 days. After the procedure,
if there is any discomfort related to the procedure it is normally treated
with oral medications.
Transplanted hair goes through the same resting and growing phases of
your normal hair. The hairs of the transplanted grafts will begin to grow
at approximately 4 months after your procedure and continue through
months 10 – 12 post operatively.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
In the FUE technique, the entire donor area has to be shaved and then follicular unit grafts are extracted directly from the scalp, one follicular unit at a time using a .8mm to 1mm punch which creates an incision around the top of the follicular units and extracts them directly from the scalp.
Once the donor hair is harvested, the recipient sites are created in the transplant area and the follicular grafts are carefully and artistically placed in the same way as with follicular unit transplantation procedures.
If the Surgeon requires single hairs for hairline restoration, the extracted follicular units may be microscopically dissected.
Size of FUE Procedures
The emphasis of the Surgeon’s time in FUE procedures is very much on the extraction of the follicular units from
the donor area, so the time remaining to artistically transplant the grafts into their new position may be reduced.
Therefore FUE procedures tend to be smaller than FUT in terms of the number of grafts, or else are done over
An average size FUE case would involve extracting follicular units for 800-2,000 grafts. This would take up to 10 hours approximately.
If a patient needs more than 2,000 grafts, the complete procedure may require more than one day of surgery
The maximum recommended number of grafts in one session is usually up to 2,500 – 3,000
It is generally accepted that the maximum number of follicular units that can be extracted with FUE and not
show visible signs in the donor area is around 5,000 follicular units, although this would be spread over
2-3 surgical sessions
ARTAS® System FUE Transplants
Now you can have a permanent and natural looking solution for hair
loss. And nobody has to know you’ve had treatment.
With the ARTAS® System Procedure, your skilled physician utilizes
advanced digital technology and precision robotics to give you fuller,
healthy looking hair. Permanent hair from the back of the head is
transplanted into thinning areas, growing naturally as before.
You’ll have natural looking hair – your own hair – that you can wear
in any style with confidence.
What Is A Follicular Unit?
We all know what hair follicles are. But many people don’t realize
that hair in your scalp grows in groupings. These groupings,
called follicular units, typically contain one to four hair follicles.
In hair restoration, single-hair follicular units are transplanted in
irregular patterns along the hairline, like the original hairline.
Multiple-hair follicular units are used in the interior to provide
density and fullness. In this way, the transplanted hair grows back
naturally and permanently.
ARTAS® System Machine Interface
Visualizes the surface of the scalp in three dimensions with micron-level precision.
Stereo digital imaging maps coordinates, angle orientation and direction for each follicular unit.
Determines the density and distribution of follicular units.
At 50 times a second, monitors and updates distinct parameters of each and every follicular unit.
Intelligent algorithms set the alignment and depth for individual follicular unit harvesting.
Calculated angle of approach minimizes transections by the two-needle system.

Facial Hair Restoration
While hair loss is more commonly associated with the head, where it occurs on the face it is even more noticeable. Firstly because it is less commonly seen but secondly because the face is so prominent and visible, so any unusual physical irregularity is noticed.
Many men and women suffer facial hair loss. Loss of facial hair is not commonly recognised in the same way that male pattern baldness is. It is also very evident and visible to see, so the condition can cause great embarrassment.
Enhance Hair Surgery is at the forefront of facial hair restoration and our Surgical Team can give you back a moustache, sideburns or a beard.
We can even restore eyebrows via a special facial hair transplant, creating a natural and beautiful result. While hair loss is more commonly associated with
the head, where it occurs on the face it is even more noticeable. Firstly because it is less commonly seen but secondly because the face is so prominent and visible, so any unusual physical irregularity is noticed. We see men whose inability to grow and maintain masculine facial hair, such as a beard, goatee, moustache or sideburns, affects their very masculinity.
Whether through trauma, surgery or other causes, the inability to grow facial hair is a problem for many men.
These men report that their lack of facial hair can weaken their self-esteem and they desire a more masculine look.
If this is you, then be reassured that there is a potential solution that could help to restore your facial hair. Our Surgeons can help regrow facial hair with hair transplant techniques such as:
Sideburn hair restoration
Moustache hair transplant surgery
Beard hair restoration surgery
This is hair that will never fall out and will require shaving and trimming. It’s your own hair - back again, where you want it. We’ve helped hundreds of
men enjoy their facial hair again.
